(from the jojos archive)

PICT0804.1122216142Aiden has had his front two incisors on the bottom for a while now. He is just starting to get his front two incisors on the top but the next two incisors on top are already in. Vampire baby!

Are we going somewhere?

(from the jojos archive)

PICT0792.1121820898I'm having trouble facing the fact that we are moving in 9 days. Is has been made easier to ignore because we are not packing. We have decided to have the movers come and pack for us. So on Thursday the 28th the contents of our house will be packed into boxes by strangers, loaded onto a truck and driven away. We will clean up a bit behind them, wait until Aiden's bedtime and then start driving. It's going to be an emotional day. There's nothing quite as weird as your house totally empty. We're leaving our first house, our friends, and a town we have called home for five years. Five years is as long as I have lived anywhere (well, six years in Fargo- but I was anxious to leave there) and although I'm sure we are making the right choice in moving, its going to be hard. There are about 6 people I've said I want to have lunch with before I go and I'm afraid its just not going to happen. Thanks to everyone who came to our farewell party! I have rubber burn on my hip from the moonwalk, so you know I had fun.

housekeeping surprise

(from the jojos archive)

When I'm cleaning something up that I haven't touched in a while, I almost always find a surprise. This afternoon I was doing a little web site housekeeping, taking down old old old blog incarnations that were just collecting dust, and decided to look at the referrer logs. I came across a referrer from AltaVista video search for the jojos. This little site is eighth result in a video search for "belly dance"! Whooo hooo!

Unfortunately, that's one of the pages I just took down, but you can still see the belly dance video here.

Baby Party!

(from the jojos archive)

Last night we hosted our birth class's joint one-year birthday party. It was a blast! Almost everyone from the class could make it.

We've put up some pictures on ofoto. I'll add more links to pictures if I get them.

UPDATE: More pictures from Tina and Joe.
UPDATE 2: Even more pictures from Alex and Lynne.

master's paper saga... part 2

(from the jojos archive)

Before I launch into this, let me say that its almost done. Really. Today or tomorrow I'll send it off to get the formatting checked by the official formatting police & then that's it. Whew.... but not without some stress:

I sent my advisor a full draft a couple weeks ago. He had already told me in person that he liked the first half and things were looking really good. In so many words, he said to just finish it. No real comments, nothing to add, and he even said I could delete one piece of analysis that was taking too long. Great! So, I sent the full draft along and spent the last couple weeks eagerly awaiting his comments.

I still hadn't heard anything yesterday, and sent him an email saying something like "hey Bob... its 10 days until the final version is due... what's the deal? did you get my draft?" Well, apparently he had, and he had sent me comments about a week and a half ago.... to an email account I haven't checked in my entire 2+ years at SILS! I logged into that account for the first time last night and there were 6 messages, all from my advisor. Comments on the first draft, comments on the second draft, urgent messages from last semester asking me where my master's paper was...

Uggh... Arrrgh... I couldn't believe it. Soooooo frustrating. I must have sent him 50 emails over the past couple years, and NONE were from that address. Did he not find it suspicious that I hadn't responded?

Well, no matter. A few more gray hairs, and I'm on my way. The paper is almost done and I will graduate in a few weeks.

Lesson learned: if you have an email address, either check it, or set it up to forward your mail to one you do check. I logged into my assigned email account at CMU for the second time ever, and what did I find? 1361 messages, all hot stock picks & cheap Rolexes.

UPDATE: Its done! Whoo hoo! I just turned in my master's paper! You can download and read the master's paper here. My only request is that you DON'T point out any grammatical, spelling, or any other type of error. (let me know if that link doesn't work.)

We're back

(from the jojos archive)

PICT0748.1120598594Yeah, the jojos was down for a few days. But we're back. Aiden won a trophy yesterday at the Carrboro Community 4th of July celebration. They lined up the babies for a crawling competition. Aiden took off after a girl wearing dealy-boppers on her head and it got him over the finish line. He came in second place! Actually, only two babies even went anywhere. A few started crying from all of the cheering, and most of them sat there looking confused. It was amusing.
